Heritage Initiative (HI)
The Heritage Initiative seeks to preserve and promote the rich cultural history of Northern Nigeria through education. This program focuses on creating culturally relevant learning materials that not only support literacy but also foster identity, pride, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.
Overview:
Objectives:
Promote Northern Nigerian heritage and history through schoolbooks and storybooks.
Replace foreign, less relatable content with local examples in early education.
Enhance both formal learning and informal storytelling traditions.
Approach:
AFN Foundation will work with local historians, writers, illustrators, and educators to develop high-quality books that reflect local traditions, proverbs, heroes, and societal values. The materials will be tested in schools and communities, and adjusted based on feedback. Distribution is targeted at underserved areas to promote inclusion and equity.
Expected Impact:
Improved learning outcomes and engagement among students.
Increased literacy rates using familiar content and language.
Revitalized appreciation for Northern culture, fostering unity and pride in heritage.
