Almajiri School Model

The Almajiri School Model is AFN Foundation’s innovative solution to integrating traditional Islamic learning with modern education and vocational training. This pilot program is designed for Almajiri children—often excluded from formal schooling—to provide them with a dignified, structured, and empowering learning experience.

About the project

Objectives:
  • Transform the Almajiri system into a productive, respected model of education.

  • Equip students with literacy, numeracy, technical, and life skills alongside Qur’anic knowledge.

  • Break the cycle of poverty, street begging, and social exclusion.

Approach:

Through partnership with religious scholars, educators, and curriculum experts, AFN will develop and implements a blended curriculum. The schools will offer formal classrooms, skill acquisition centers, and mentorship programs. A strong emphasis is placed on values, discipline, and community responsibility, while also providing meals, uniforms, and psychosocial support.

Expected Impact:
  • Holistically educated children capable of pursuing diverse life opportunities.

  • Improved public perception of the Almajiri system and reduced social stigma.

  • A scalable model that can be adapted across regions facing similar educational challenges.
